In case, you’re seeing “Destination Folder Access Denied, You’ll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder” error message on Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 desktop. In today’s article, I will share with you simple fix to solve this error so that you can delete the folder instantly.
Whenever you create any file and folder on your machine, the system assigns various permission to it. These permissions are known as Effective Permissions. In case, the user has no necessary permission, the Windows operating system shows up this error.
Let me explain this with an example, suppose you uninstalled any software from your system using Control Panel. Now whenever you uninstall that software, the registry keys and configuration files are stored somewhere. The maximum time uninstaller successfully removes all the registry keys and configuration files. But sometimes some folder still remain and when you try to remove or delete these folders you receive the error which reads “You’ll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder”
The worst part of this error message is that it comes up with error dialog box in which you will see three buttons which include Continue, Skip, and Cancel. Now when you click on Continue button to get rid of the error, it shows another message which reads “You require permission from [username] to make changes to this folder“. Now, this is really annoying and no matter how many times you have click on the Continue button, you will fail to delete the folder.
There are lots of users who’re seeing the error message so keeping this thing in mind I decided to write a simple solution that will help you to get rid of this error. So here is what you need to do:
First of all, you need to take permissions of the folder which you want to delete. For that, you need:
Make a Right click on the folder which you want to delete, then select Properties
Switch to Security tab
-> click on the Edit button -> click on the Add button.
Select users or Group window will come up. In that window, you will see an empty box with text which reads “Enter the object names to select“. Here you need to type anything, let’s say “Everyone” and after that click on the button named as Check Names on the right side available at the right side of the windows and click OK.
After that, you need to choose “Everyone” under Group or user names section and check Full control box under Allow column. Click on the Apply and then OK.
Alternatively, you can check out my previous article on how to take full ownership of the folder to get ownership of the folder quickly.
Now try to delete the folder, I’m sure you will able to delete the folder after implementing this fix.
I hope you find this suggestion useful let me know your thoughts in the comments.
